It's all the Rain's Fault!

Our CD burner is sending orders to the blackhole Anna faxed her lunch orders to earlier this week. Shauna insists it's the rain. The rain always causes the computers to act up.

In other news, my chair has some how contracted the most annoying squeak. So now I can't lean back on my right elbow because the whole building will know what and when I'm doing it.

But There's No Guy In A Dorky Uniform To Make Fun Of

K102 lets you listen to their radio station through their website, but for some reason, they don't play the commercials, this really kooky elevator music is played instead. It really makes my channel flipper fingers itch.

Rhubarb Football

This morning I took a quick jaunt up to SCSU to purchase my parking permit (which took a heavy chunk out of my paycheck) and I was listening to Matt and Amy on the morning show. They mentioned something about a town in Minnesota that had like Rhubarb days or something and one of the activities citizens participated in was rhubarb football.

I of course had to call the radio station to tell my rhubarb story. At my parents' house, there is rhubarb that grows about as big as a baseball bat. This was met by stunned silence and then, "No Way!" with a bunch of Amy's giggles. When I said they lived in North Dakota, Matt said, "They always say everything is bigger in Texas, but I guess that's just not so when it comes to Rhubarb."

We hung up without me requesting any thing, but the next song they played was Keith's Making Memories of Us, which has been in the #1 spot for four weeks now. I tell ya. It's fate.

Poor Shauna

Yesterday was a typical "Monday" and today's short day hasn't helped clear her desk load either. I'm thinking she should cut out early this weekend for a breather.

Speaking of, I'm currently adding sound effects to the song catalog in the royalties software. It's killing me entering things like "Comical Male Belly Laugh," "Chimpanzee Panting Vocal," and "Medium Fart."

And They Say Young People Are Disrespectful!

Saturday afternoon it was pouring rain. The saying "raining cats and dogs" was probably used excessively. And I was a good girl. I took my grandma grocery shopping.

When I went to leave, it was tossing buckets of water down, and I was inching out of my parking spot between the two trucks towering over my car, when BAM! I lurched into another vehicle.

I get out and check the damage. Nothing. No ding, so scratch, not even a paint chip. I turn to the driver of the minty green mini-van/suv, a man 'bout ten years my dad's senior, and he rolls his window down about four inches and asks for my insurance information. I give it to him, along with my driver's license which he rudely asks for. Then he hands me them back with a slip of paper containing his info and says, "if it's under $500 do you just want to go through insurance." By now, I'm soaked like a rat and staring gape mouth stuttering "there isn't any damage!"

What kind of pathetic asshole doesn't even get out of his car to assess the damage?

Speaking of Anna

She has gotten herself a blog so she can write about how bored she is at work. Check it out and help alleviate the boredom.

Anna's Words of Wisdom

Ahh, Lunch

I'm still hungry. And my Capitan Crunch cereal really doesn't look all that appetizing anymore. Darn.

Those Crazy Brits

There has been some hub-bub because a cell phone ring tone is like the number one selling single in the UK or something. Anyhow, it is THE most annoying thing to listen too, but makes you laugh no matter what.

To hear a clip of the song, click here then scroll down to Top Sound Effects and click on the listening icon for 1. The Crazy Frog (Remix). There is also an excerpt from the animation available under the animation section of that site.

Wild Weekend

You never know what will happen with Becky around, which is how I ended up with seven people piled into my car and how come I attended a softball game to watch a group of guys I met the night before. One of which was my "hottie" of the night. Although, he doesn't look so hot once he's wearing a blue and red softball uniform. Oh, and he was married. That sorta kills the hotness factor right there, doesn't it.

Oooh, The intrigue

Finish this Sentence:

Today at work I. . .

played with a CD wrapper opener.

End of the Marking Period

I got my grades back.
And they look so pretty!

Intro to Sociology A+
American Immigration A
China since 1800 A-
Concepts/Theories in History A
Native Americans in curriculum A

My GPA however, hasn't budged (fuey).

Graduation

As should be apparent by now, this past weekend I went to my sister's graduation.

*snarky smile*

And it was fun!

My sister graduated third in her class, so she had to speak. She had mentioned earlier that I was in her speech. She did not however tell me how, exactly, I was portrayed. When she said, "Thanks to Lisa for teaching me not to stand up in a canoe." I lost it. I was howling with laughter. My dad was elbowing me and stage whispering "shut up you're really loud." Which only set me off more.

Later that day, at the grad party, all these people kept coming up to me and asking about the canoe. I just kinda shrugged and said it was a long story...it's really not. When I was like 12 we went to Silver Lake, and I somehow managed to tip the canoe over in like six inches of water. It's not exactly a shining moment of my dexterity, but it served as a humorous moment in Mel's speech along with TV not rotting Eliza's brain, and Vanessa being a wacky little weirdo.

check in

I'm going to cheat tomarrow and write a nice deal about Mel's graduation at work. Tonight I'm just checking out my new net accout. I've got ten hours a month, so we'll see how this works.

Make it Stop!

Three monitors latter and my screen STILL won't stop flickering.

Congrats Keith! (part 2)

I almost forgot! Making Memories of Us finally reached number 1! So Keith now has SIX number ones and TWO of them are off of Be Here! I definitely think he's have a good week this week.

A Bit of Blogging on Break

I'm taking a quick "Lunch" break right now. Hee Hee. More like I'm taking twenty minutes to goof off because checking publishing is a giant black hole and I've been doing it most of today. Ek. Now I think I'm going to give my list of tracks to burn to CD a whirl. LOL.

Congrats Keith!

At last night's ACM's Keith took home (or rather he won and they're being shipped to his home since he's currently on tour in the UK) Top Male Vocalist and Album of the Year for Be Here.

I was quite saddened by the fact that I missed his telecast performance of Days Go By from Northern Ireland. I also missed his acceptance speech for album, but I got to see the absolute shock for Male Vocal and his genuine giddiness when Kenny won Entertainer (which Keith was also nominated for). And Tosh got to see Dierks perform, so she was pretty happy too.

Note to All Aspiring Songwriters

DO NOT begin a song title with the words Rain or Time. There are FAR TOO many already.

Sneaking

I'm sneaking a few minutes here at my fabulous summer job to say "Hi!" My eyeballs are about to cross themselves because I've been working in Excel all day. I suppose I should get back to researching my catalogue, right now I'm working through a couple albums from the Flamin' Groovies. Half an hour till quitting time, so I should prolly get back to looking.

Ciao!

Lot of Leaving Left to Do

and a lot of waiting too. I'm just sitting here chillin' to Dierks's new album. Everything except for the phone, my computer, and today's newspaper has been moved out, and now I'm just waiting to check out of this place.

I still have to run over to Copies Plus and pick up my final project, but Me and Tosh have already said adios to Anthony and there's talk of hitting the liquor store on the way home, or rather after we get home and unload.

I guess this is it until I get myself online again. When that'll be is still a mystery I guess.

Moving Out

Clean Desk...check.
Empty closet...check.
Ball up bedding...check.
Packing everything in the car...Damn.

*drool*

The only thing noteworthy about Shania Twain's new video for I ain't no Quitter is the hot dancer guy in the black hat. MMMmmm baby. Break me off a piece of that.

The Problem with the Weather

It is wet.

And cold.

And I went to Target and spent more money than I should have. Then I stepped in a puddle and got cold water on my butt, which I had to sit on the entire drive back. Only to step in another puddle on the way to lunch.

Yes. Again with the wet butt.

Thoughts Before Bed

Black isn't sliming for everyone. If you weighted 400 lbs, slimming off a mere pound really doesn't do much. The only thing slimming, would be a invisibility cloak.

Finished!

I have completed all of my finals for the spring 2005 semester. Now it's time to party. Except that Tosh has just started taking her finals, so I guess it's going to have to be a party of one (or three if Billy and Shania join.)

Quandary

Please tell me how I got a hit on my blog for a search on "spiderman rap dancing." Please, oh, please. There HAS to be an answer to THAT one.

*rolls eyes obnoxiously*

Wake Up Call For Romance Haters

I know every once in a while I get in to an annoying argument with friends about how my romance novels are a bunch of fluff. I have now found the proof that I'm not just some weird, pie-eyed, cotton brain. Check out this NY Time op ed piece. It eloquently says everything I always try to say. I mean it should. It was written by an English professor.

Better Late Than Never

I think I'm still getting over the shock, but Congrats to Renee and Kenny for their suprise nuptials. I know Keith and Kenny are good buddies, so here's some well wishing from this Urbanite. Kenny's been country's hottest bachelor for so long it's kinda weird. I guess Keith is just going to have to take up that title.

*laughs deviously up sleeve*

Here's the link for article and pics.

My Heart Thumps a Little Harder Too.

I was reading the threads on the .net webboard and ran into this cute little anecdote on a thread by IlookgoodinMyshirt called Keith almost Kills Aussie Fan!:

On an Australian Reality TV show last night, 10th May, the show was about paramedics going about their nightly emergency routine.

Keith nearly killed a fan in Melbourne!!!!

The show showed the ambulance racing to a concert where a girl in her early 20's needed emergency care and then be rushed to hospital. She was wheeled out on the gurney past the 'KEITH URBAN TONIGHT' signs.

The girl's father reckoned that the base was so load that it vibrated her heart into arrest. The paramedic said that was probably baloney. What really happened was that she got so excited that she gave herself an enormous hit of adrenalin and had a heart palpitations big-time.

Yes Keith gets the girls SO excited that their hearts REALLY do break.

I saw it on TV and its true!

********

That is just wrong and funny on WAY to many levels. I really do love my Keith though.

Cracking the Dawn continued

Why does the expression "crack of dawn" make me think of eggs?

Cracking the Dawn

I got up at the crack of dawn this morning to finish up my Final Project for my Ethnic Studies class, and now that I've got it semi finished, I realize I don't have the final until 6:30 tonight, and my other final is at like 1, so I would have had plenty of time to finish it if I would have slept in like Tosh is currently doing.

See What Happens?

Yesterday, I finished my China Final and came back to an e-mail from the Amazing Lauren about how I won this month's street team contest, and I didn't even blog about it. Nope. I started on a bit of homework, then I settled down to read Dream of Me by Lisa Cach.

And now it's Tuesday and instead of finishing up my final project, I'm sitting half naked blogging about yesterday while waiting for Becky to show up to run errands.

Now I'm going to find a shirt and curl up with Eloisa James's Much Ado About You.

You didn't really thing I was going to wander about town half naked did you?

But I Don't Wanna

I'm studying for my China final tomorrow, but I really would rather be doing almost anything else.

*Deep Breath*

Back to my notecards and the Great Leap Forward. Oh, and for those interested, I got a 94 on my dreaded, last minute China term paper. I reviewed Wang Ping's Aching for Beauty: Footbinding in China. Good times.

By The Way. . .

the brats won. And they were GooooooooD!

That's Funny.

The spell checker doesn't recognize meatball as a word. It keeps asking me if I want to replace it with mothball. MMMmmm mothballs. That's funny.

Just in time for dinner

I fell asleep studying for my China final. And woke up when Erin and Tosh started Im-ing each other because I somehow got included in the conversation. Don't ask me how. The details are pretty fuzzy.

Anyhow, right now Tosh is scrubbing her teeth so we can run to the grocery store for some food. I think I want brats. Doesn't that sound good? I'm not sure yet. Tacos sound pretty nummalicious too. Or meatballs. MMMmmm meatballs.

It's official, I'm hungry now.

A man with almost enough flaws

Snitched from an article located here.

What makes Anderson's redneck ethos so surprising is that he has such a strong and take-charge academic background. He was first in his class at Oklahoma State University, where, in 1990, he earned an engineering degree, compiling in the process a 3.9 grade point average. One of his brothers is a rocket scientist.

"You can be a genius," Anderson retorts, "and still like to have sex and party."

Now if only he were younger, less famous, drove a wicked motorcycle, and lived here. . .is that too much to ask?

So, Uh, Late Nite?

Friday, me and the fantabulous twosome (that would be Anna and Tosh) went to Pov's to see the toothsome and talented Keith Anderson. Yes. That's Keith Anderson, not Urban, but the two are no where near each other in the chambers of my devoted heart.

He played and showed himself to be an enchanting entertainer, a crowd pleaser, and an all around fun guy. At the end of his set, he came out to sign our CD's. When it came time for mine, his manager/assistant/really tall handler guy was talking to him, so he sort of signed my CD and moved on to Anna's. The next thing I know, he looks up at me with those gorgeous blue eyes and says, "Hey thanks." How sweet is that?

The bar was packed with people and there wasn't any spare seating, so we ditched it for some dinner at Denny's, who's honey mustard really sucks and looks like monkey snot.

By ten thirty, we were on the road home, so we stopped at Coburns and picked up Wimbledon staring Kirsten Dunst (ick) and Paul Bettany (Those blue eyes are so scrummy!) and some wine coolers. I was home by 1 and tired as hell. I think it may have had something to do with moving mostly out earlier in the day.

Issues

First I fell off the bed. Then I stepped in a bowl. Oh, the indignities life will throw at me yet today. When it starts like this (well ACTUALLY it started with Toshia squealing on the phone with Becky) you know it's going to be a good one.

Ah, Back in Business

I guess I inadvertantly took a leave of absence. It wasn't really anything I sat about thinking to do, I just go so busy and would think of blogworthy things, but other stuff would get in the way and that would be the end. I'm back now.

Well, for atleast a week.

Final Stretch

All I have left is two final exams, a final project and presentation to complete, and a paper to finish, along with moving out. I'm almost done!

It's That Time Again

First week of May can only mean one thing: Kentucky Derby Day.

Derby, Oaks, Oh my.

Wednesday, May 04, 2005

Ah, Freedom

Well, actually it's just a break from the craziness. My class ended early, so I'm going to kick back and put the book chase I was planning on later tonight off until tomorrow morning. Freedom's almost mine.

Toshia's Fault

Tosh keeps emailing me because her work is stupid and doesn't have messengers.

Anyhow, I'm trying to get her to read See Jane Score because Luc is such a hottie in that book. And I made the comment about how I need to track down Sabrina the Teenaged Witch and get her boy dough recipe. Did anyone see that episode where she bakes herself a date that looked stunningly like Brian Austin Green? There was also this spell the Aunts called Randy Travis, where you said the person's name three times really fast and they would appear.

That's beside the point though. My point was that if I could have any book character come to life, Luc would totally be on that list, even more so if he was played by Brad Pitt.

Where's Pumba When You Need Him?

I left empty handed for our floor luau, and I came back with a soda, a beach towel, two, count them, two paper umbrellas, sugared up with a whole new attitude. (and a Killer headache.)

Movie Review: Friday Night Lights

Today while Tosh was at work, I finally got around to watching Friday Night Lights, staring Billy Bob Thorton and Tim McGraw.

What can I say. It's a football movie. It's about some boys down in Texas playing football, where, we've all heard it before, football is serious business. Friday Night Lights is grittier and not as happy as the spirit lifting Remember the Titans, or as comical and eye-candy filled Varsity Blues. The best part hands down was Tim McGraw's portrayal of an alcoholic bastard. It still has it's charm though.

One of those charms would be the ever adorable Garrett Hedlund (Patroclus from Troy with Mr. Sex on Legs), who as it turns out is from my very fine state of Minnesota. I guess I can find me some hottie hometown boys too.

*Takes a minute to fan self*

Another delectable person to watch, and melt at the knees when you listen to him talk is Lucas Black. MMMmmm, I sure love a boy with an accent.

One Down. . .Oh, Crap!

Well. My China paper is finished. Now on to the next of the twelve projects to finish by the end of next week. Starting with my Financial Aid papers. Yippie for me.

Don't sneak up on Unsuspecting Garbage Cans

On the way to class, I kept hearing these little noises. Ya know, like mice in the wall? Well, I go to toss something in the garbage can, and out pops a squirrel. I wasn't sure who was more freaked, me that he was going to bite off my fingers or him who was afraid I was going to club him with an empty pop bottle.

I tell ya. Me and animals. It's a curse.

For Dumbness

My blog is publishing weird today. Please forgive the fifty multiple posts that are going to sit there for awhile.

Thank you.

Now excuse me while I go choke something.

I Wanna Eat Stale Buns Damn It!

After not eating much of anything all day, I came back from the library (paper done but sans conclusion, have to ruminate on that for a bit.) starving. As I dial my Daddy to call him back, I go about making myself a peanut butter hamburger. (That would be peanut butter on a hamburger bun for all you gourmet chefs out there.)

Half an hour later Tosh repremands me for not twisting and tucking the bag. (It's an unspoken rule that it doesn't need a twist tie after half the bag is empty. Psshta!) I turned to her and yelled, "title" and we burst into giggles as I sat down to blog about our stupidness.

*title would be "I wanna eat stale buns damn it!" in case you weren't quick on the uptake.

Library Blues

I've done it.

I've finally started the actually writhing process for my China paper, and I even have a few ideas about where I plan to take it. However, right now I'm explaining the actual process of footbinding, which I find nauseating. Plus, I'm rather hungry right now, not exactly two things that combine very well.

Ah, Billy just ran into me. He's this guy that was once in two of my classes, but now is only in my Immigrant America class. He has a tendency to be stuck on all things drinking and pleasurable in that class. I swear everyday "Irish Whiskey" is brought up by him at some point.

Anyhow. Break over. Back to the disgusting practice of footbinding.

Today's Plans a Bust

My original plan was to see Diamondback and the other bands at the Mississippi Music Fest, but it's pretty darn cold outside (36*) and Tosh is refusing to budge from her bed. Ah, I guess it just gives me more time to work on my China paper. Yes. It is still not done yet. But it will be by Monday morning. (We're at the do or die point right now. )

Saturday, April 30, 2005

Friday Night With the Moon Not Quite Out

There is just something about being followed back home by state troopers after making purchases at the liquor store that induces certain people to giggle.

Weakness

My biggest personal flaw is probably that insane part of me that allows procrastination to take over everything. At this moment, I should be working on my research paper for my China class that is due on Monday, a pushed back date at that, but instead, I'm here blogging and listening to Shelly Fairchild's awesome CD a week before it's release date.

Somewhere along the way, my paper has morphed from being about the "new" Chinese woman of revolution to having to read about footbinding, which I feel is on the same level as female circumcision, it gives me nausea, not something I'm particularity looking forward to.

Oh, and I'm hungry, but I don't want to venture to the store by myself, so I have to survive on stale cereal until Tosh gets dropped off and I have a shopping buddy to decide what I'm hungry for with.

Cold as a Witch's Tit

I went to a softball game that I didn't particularly want to go to, to see my friend pretty much get blown off by her new guy because he ex is on his team. Boys are stupid. She needs to find a new pond to fish in. And number 11 on the other team was pretty damn fine looking. "Our" team won, and I haven't been to a game in a long time, so it was almost worth freezing my ass off.

Profound Thought the Lisa Way

If you had to describe yourself as a tree, what type of tree would you be and why?

I'd be a sumac because they are annoying and difficult as hell to get rid of.

Any other takers?

Busy Day

I have to run to the library and work on my China paper and my Daddy's coming to visit! Have I mentioned that yet? Exactly. I'm a little excited. I've got so much loot to send back with him for my sisters that it's crazy.

Windfall

A friend of a friend of a friend (shall I continue) won tickets to see an exclusive artist showcase tonight featuring Amy Dalley (Men Don't Change, Living Together). Tosh has conflicts because of work, I have conflicts because my dad's coming down. Life is just unfair.

Good Read

See Jane Score by Rachel Gibson

Jane is a reporter in Seattle that's know for her singles column. Luc is the new goalie for the Chinooks and his season is on fire. Oh, and he hates reporters. Someone has the idea to send reporter Jane on the road with the team to attract a larger female audience. Interesting idea, but in the superstitious world of hockey athletes, the trouble only begins.

I was in tears. This book is absolutely hilarious, and I can't believe I stayed up so late so I could finish it. The bit about Tinky Winky the "Telebelly" was drink out the nose inducing, although I'm not sure how many people would actually do that while reading a book.

4 of 4 Lightning bolts from Lightning Girl

LIVIN

Got together with Becky, Anna, and Tosh last night. We ate pizza and watched Dazed and Confused and made plans for later this week. Sounds like we might head out to The Press on Wednesday for Anna's free Birthday pizza. There's also talk about trying to go to Keith Anderson's CD release party.

Here's my question. What makes seventies stoner music so awesome? I'm crazy about it, even if I'm the farthest thing from a pothead. What does that say? That I appreciate good music? The musicians were so inferior they needed help to be creative? I'm a stick in the mud?

I Drank Too Much Ice

and now I have to pee.

New Book

I started reading See Jane Score by Rachel Gibson. I'm on page 8 and already crazy in love with this book.

Can You Say Klutz?

I just managed to dump an entire jar of clear thumbtacks on the floor under my desk. Please tell me how these things happen?

Funny Quirk

The guy waiting in the elevator lobby has Kenny Chesney's When the Sun Goes Down as his ring tone.

Why is this funny? He looks very much like one of those suburban white guys into hip-hop culture.

The Big Question

Sociology reading or China paper research? That is the million dollar question.

I think I'm going to ponder this over lunch.

*smiles slyly*

Lunch break.

Riotous Matters of the Heart.

Ah. For funniness.

Hormonal Downer Mood

Tosh has returned and regaled me with her rip roarin' weekend and that thoroughly depresses me. I spent mine mostly alone and doing homework. I sound like such the spinster it makes me want to bawl.

The funny thing is that I actually had a blast. I mean it's not like I'd rather ditch the time I spent with my fam on Saturday for being lazy with my pals. And I really do enjoy cruising around with the widows down blasting music and singing along badly. It's just that I'd rather not have done it by myself.

Alright. Enough of that. I know. I'm just upset because unlike everyone else who seems to be able to fit a bit of fun it, my next three weeks are entirely zoned in on finishing projects, papers, and other assignments for my classes while juggling moving out, the food show, arranging my new job, and my trip home for Mel's graduation. Summer can not come soon enough.

The Fantabulous Keith Anderson

Keith Anderson's debut album Three Chord Country and American Rock and Roll is available May 3rd and is also up on CMT's Listening Party. Check it out here.

I'm crazy about the album, but I'm especially feeling Podunk, Stick it, and of course Pickin' Wild Flowers.

Lisa's Skip Day

Wednesday I'm skipping classes to go the food show. I get to spend the day with my daddy (I just found out that Sean is coming down too) and try new food items for the pizza shop. Now however, I have to get all my homework done. Ek. Once again.

Being an Auntie

I kinda like being an "honorary" auntie, even if Tabby says I can't be one.

Elizabeth was over on Saturday when I went to visit my cousins. She is such an adorable little blondie. Poor Tim is going to have to beat the boys off when she gets older.

Christian is talking. Good lord. Everything ends in "y" now except mama. Nana is now Nanny. Dog is now Doggie. Door is now dory. But mom is still mama. They also buzzed him and now he keeps rubbing his head. Lol.

Boris Karloff Baby.

This weekend I finally started work on my Family Biography paper for my Immigration class. My cousin Sandy's been doing that whole genealogy stuff. It's amazing and fascinating and I think I'm really going to get into that sort of thing.

Anyhow, I might possibly be related to Boris Karloff, ya know the guy that played Igor in Frankenstein. It hasn't been "officially" determined, but he changed his name because he didn't thing Pratt was a real acting career friendly name. So, I guess it's something fun to look into.

Getting Ready For The Weekend

I'm packing for this weekend. Unlike Tosh who gets to prepare for parties, pizza, and road trips, I'm packing homework and other "I don't NEED this for the next three weeks" items to head to BL for my pow-wow session with my homework. Yea, me.

Thursday, April 21, 2005

Sleepin' In

Tosh and I have discovered that neither of us have our first class tomarrow. That means we get to sleep in. Or still get up and do homework. Tough call. lol.

Spring Cleaning

For college students, spring cleaning has a totally different meaning. For me, it means that from here on out, I have to slowly lug things homeward so move out day doesn't take forever. Doing that also sets me on semi easy streak for finals week.

Today however, I'm doing homework. Lots of homework.

Lost a post

Blogger lost my post from this morning. It must have errored when I left for class. Damn thing.

Fun word to say

Smoochology

I found it in a magazine when I was making one of those Modge Podge picture frames.

Mission: Terminated

My Prof shot down my book for that paper. He said it focused too much on the American Experience. So he gave me some more "source" material to check out. Yeah. More work for me.

Toshia is mean.

1. She makes me vacuum the carpet even though she knows I hate doing it and that I am not the only one who has to sit/lay/sleep/any other activity on it.

2. She lied. When she moves she's taking the electrical equipment she told me I could still use.

3. After I begged for two months to go, she convinced Anna to go to Ihop without me.

4. When they go for dinner while I'm at class, they never bring me something back.

5. She tried to make me think she went to Val's for dinner tonight and then didn't bring me anything back, which really pissed me off because I really didn't get to eat any dinner, but Kristin saved her because we have floor activities tonight that are serving pizza.

Brain Hurts

I just got done with my Ethnic Studies Mock school board meeting about mascots. I ended up on the "Keeping it" which I don't agree with, so I had to prepare a statement as a student athlete and student government member supporting keeping our Native American mascot. (I was fabulous by the way).

However, there was the young woman on the other team that was vehemently opposed and would not shut up! She had to address every single comment made and kept slamming all our points even after the "meeting" moved into a compromise stage and into class discussion and no longer a "meeting" where we had to perform our roles. She called me a flip-flopper and made some veiled Kerry remarks. It was very unsportsmanlike.

I Got a Little Color Today.

I spent lunch, yet again, eating a gyro and doing homework. Because of the rain however, I had to sack out on the dried cement slabs. Anyhow, I just pulled my shirt off to put my jammies on and HOT DAMN I am already working the tan lines on my decolletage.

Reading handwriting

Tosh just commented that "yeah I can read my own handwriting" which of course she couldn't read, because some how feet became face and it ended up on there twice. I however can read the most horrible handwriting. Ever had to read something written by Josh Gregersen? People in my home ec class used to pay me to correct his papers.

Question

What form does internal gratitude take exactly?

Cross the Crossable Body Parts.

I think I may have found a way out of my China research paper. We get the option to do a book review, and I think I may have found a book from my other research to use. I have to get clearance from my Prof first, so now I have to get up at the crack of dawn because that's the ONLY time I can make his office hours. Wish me Luck.

Hooray!

New episodes return tonight for both Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill. And in other news, I read somewhere that Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush have wedded. I thought the wedding was supposed to be in May? Well, whatever. Congrats.

Off For Good Behavior

Today's Sociology class got cut short because the DVD player wouldn't work so we couldn't watch a video on the formation of Masculinity. Instead of running to her office to get some lecture notes, Dr. Ore just let us loose. I think I'm going to be able to get all my China reading done now. LoL.

Real Men of Genius

The boys downstairs are out playing basketball, so they decided to turn up their really bad women bashing music to top volume.

How do I strike back you ask? With one of womanhood's most powerful tools.

That's right Ladies and Gents, I fired up the vacuum cleaner and vacuumed the rug which Tosh has been after me about for a week. So now my carpet is clean and the noise is off.

I guess Lightning Girl's work is never truly done.

Today's Top Hits

This is a small list of the searches that stumbled onto my blog:

Keith Anderson Pickin Wildflowers
Gerard Buttler (times 2)
Keith Urban Look Alikes
Guitar Monkey
Women's Thong Underwear

and the grand prize winner. . .Sexy Bemidji Girls

I want to know where the heck that one came from.

The Cheese is over for now.

The Mr. Romance Contest has just ended, and all I can really say is that that show is one of those cheesy train wreck type things that you just can't pry you're eyes away from. Or you're ears. Those boys are the corniest ever. I swear.

The guys me and Tosh have been rooting for made it to the final five except for Tosh's Adam. And Andrew, while not winning the competition, won viewers choice. And while Bruce looks hot as a Scottish Highlander, the man has a singing voice like, well I believe the announcer said he was singing love songs to a whale. Poor man.

oh, Randy won.

Fun word to say

dwindled

Jeremy from my Ethnic Studies class said it today. And it's just so fun to repeat.

I know I Looked Like a Bag Lady, But Still. . .

Today while I was at the library I got two distinctly disgusted looks from two men who were in no position to be tossing them around.

First of all, I was dressed like a hobo because I was lazy. It was my JP's outfit, but with non-holed jeans, a white bra, and my brown snap shirt tossed over the top so my strappiness wasn't so obvious.

I set my stuff down at a computer in the 3rd floor comp lab and this BIG (as in very round) guy with long brown greasy hair shoots me a dirty look. And then continued to look disapproving and grunt at me the entire fifteen minutes I sat their to shoot Renee my bibliography in an email.

I then progressed downstairs thinking I'd get some of my Ethnic Studies readings done. Once I negotiated the materials away from the grumpy guy at the circulation desk I made my way to my normal table. I like the one right in the middle on the first floor. I get to watch the bathroom traffic and sometimes it's rather entertaining. Today however, somebody was sitting there, so I had to take a less trafficked area. And at the table next to me, another BIG (see note above) guy with a greasy brown ponytail sat sneering at me and drinking his coffee.

Gads. Can't nobody just leave me alone?

Out in the Warm Sunshine

Today we had marvelous weather. I ate my lunch barefoot in the grass next to Atwood. I also had my foot on the sprinkler head because if that sucker was going off there was no way I was going to get sopping wet. Well, actually, there was a really good chance I would, but I was hoping the whole foot thing would give me some prior notice.

So there I was. Eating a chicken gyro and editing my annotated bibliography for Galler's class. Perfection on a warm spring day. Someone should write an ode to me.

I got nudged!

Right. So Tosh and I went to meet Becky at JP's tonight for dinner and on the way back we were chillin' at a stop light singing along to the radio. Normal, right?

All of a sudden, the car lurched. Immediately I looked down thinking my car had just shut off, died, imploded, something all on it's own. Nope. The car behind us rear-ended us. When I looked back, these two girls giggled and then flipped me off. I guess they didn't like the Nodak license plate art on my car.

(There were no vehicles harmed in this nudging.)

If Only I Had Forty Five Bucks to Toss Around

I actually could get a lot of stuff I want with that, and truthfully, the top of my list, suprisingly, isn't tickets to Keith's Mankato show, in fact my next major purchase is either going to be my PPST test or a new printer (since mine died in September).

Oh yeah. The reason I even started this is because Mindy Smith is playing the Guthrie in Mpls. with Mary Chapin Carpenter in May and that would be something wicked to see. I have Mindy's debut CD and it's so beautiful. Still, I think my favorite is her singing Dolly's Jolene. I don't know if anything much tops that.

Little Girl Lost

So, it sounds like Tosh may be moving in with Bri and Ben. Somebody send out the pity party invites.

Or maybe not.

I've got two options, but either way, I get a new roommate. My first is to just stay here in the dorms and get a new roomie. The other is to get a job so I can toss in some rent money and bunk with Jade. Either way, I've got a major adventure staring me in the face don't I? LOL.

Weekend of the Sloth.

It is now Sunday afternoon, and I still haven't completed the planned amount of homework for the weekend. I have, however, managed read three books for fun.

And I've finally put some real clothes on.

At least I would call them real clothes: my favorite pair of jeans, which prolly have more hole in them than a slice of swiss, a black Old Navy halter I inherited from somebody with my silver/grey bra sticking out, my day old dirty hair tossed up, and I'm sure I'll dress this train wreck up with my silver flip-flops.

So I'm just chillin' and listening to Dierks's new disc that isn't out yet. (God I LOVE CMT's listening parties!)

And now, I've sweet talked Becky and Tosh into heading over to JP's with me. I want french fries so bad!

Green Olives and OJ

I must admit that was an interesting mix.

. . .And She Can Sing Too

Alrighty, I just got back from seeing Vanessa Carlton. Well, not actually just back since I've talked to Becky, peed, and contemplated my eye make-up.

The concert was pretty awesome. A band named McKinley Place opened. Throughout their amazing acoustic set, I was staring at the background vocalist and trying to place him. Here, it turns out, I have like three classes with him. Tosh and Anna both are talking about picking up their album and they're playing at the Carpet in May, so we'll probably try and see them there.

After a short intermission Vanessa came on stage. I know her radio singles and prior to this had been one of those people who enjoyed the music on the radio, but not much else. That has totally changed. She's one of those triple threats. She can write, she can sing, and she can play one hell of a piano. She's also very articulate, funny, humble, and totally relatable.

The set was simply her and the piano, and she was wearing this strapless pouffy dress that Erin would be madly in love with. The entire event was treated as if we were sitting in the living room and she was just playing around with some music and relating the stories behind them.

I'm still on a concert adrenaline high and I want some french fries or something. I guess I have to talk Toshia in to a late night food adventure.
