Introspection

Last night I accompanied A.Riley and some of the other Chi Alpha peeps to see Elizabethtown staring Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst. Pastor Dave thought it would be more spiritual, and the guys wanted more action, but I thought it hit mostly on the mark.

Drew is a fast rising shoe business genius who just lost his boss "one BILLION dollars if you round it" and is at home trying to orchestrate his suicide when he gets a call that his dad has died and he needs to collect the body from his relatives in Kentucky. On the way there, he meets Claire, a flight attendant who's bubbly personality makes him take a deeper look into his life and family.

The family is small town southern family quirky. There's love and dysfunction and laughs, which every family should have in some form. Some of the most touching scenes occur between Drew's uncle Dale, Drew's cousin Jess, and Jessie's son Samson.

There's humor spread throughout, from the outrageous Chuck and Cindy's wedding festivities to Susan Sarandon's eulogy. But one thing that particularly stands out is the fabulous soundtrack, whether it's Drew's cell phone ringing "Can't Get Next To You" or Jessie's band playing "Freebird" at the memorial service. There's plenty of music, laughs, and Great American roadtrip destinations to keep you tuned in.
