Review: Ned Kelly

I finally was able to rent (read borrow) Ned Kelly, staring Heath Ledger, Orlando Bloom, Naomi Watts (21 grams), and Geoffrey Rush, from the library.

Fun Fact: The Sydney Morning Herald suggested that Heath Ledger was made for the role because when he tried on Ned Kelly's original iron armour, it fit perfectly. Heath Ledger was quoted saying, "It was quite eerie actually ... We're the same height and the same body weight. He was skinny 'cause he was starving, I'm skinny 'cause I don't go to the gym."

The story is pretty straight up. It's an interpretation of the "life and times" of Ned Kelly, the legendary Australian outlaw. For those of you who don't know Ned, you should really read up about him. He was an Irish selector's son and their family was often harassed by the police. He was an amazing young man who had a short life. He was hanged at age 25.

Um, Well how was that as a brief overview of a movie? Hahaha. Yeah.

The mood was amazing. A couple of times I got chills watching the stark scenery accompanied by Heath's narration. Or it just could have been his voice. It wasn't a movie to garner any awards, but it was very fulfilling to watch. And sad. It made me think of my Sociology class. Now I'm getting maudlin. Gotta snap out of that. How the heck can you get that way when reviewing a movie? 3 of 4, Heath puts it over the top.
